WSV – No shortage of competition

Week three of the Wednesday night, social volleyball league was a huge success with each of the ten teams fielding full squads. Three new players were able to slot into teams. Divisions one and two are at full capacity, however there were a few slots available in division three – which is now virtually at full capacity.

Division three was, by far, the most competitive evening yet. The Wallyballers, captained by Emma Powell, managed to clinch their first victory, as they were 3-0 victors and left with confidence going into the next fixture. The other division three fixture allowed Dig That to extend their 100% start to the season, and retain top spot in the league. Wrong Direction are yet to win a match, yet play newly formed Wallyballers, next.

In division one/two, Hot Digs won 2-1 in their tightly contested match against TeBeCe, who even with the superb service reception from Mark Thorne, couldn’t pull through. Matt Jones was a key instigator in the win that was enough to take them clear at the top with Spike & Pillage (who have the best + points difference in the league) in joint second with Service Returns after both sides won their respective matches 3-0. Sue Neate is proving a fantastic character in the Spike and Pillage side: motivating them. While for her side, Helen dominated the centre of the court, ensuring Service Returns returned a strong points total.

It was another tough week for Taborites Tornados, after suffering their third straight defeat, as they prepare to face their parent team (Taborites Tempest) in their next fixture. Jo Coates has shown her ability to adapt to the league and is a solid asset for them, a win can’t be too far away. Tempest were unfortunate enough to suffer at the hands of Service Returns, who have upped their standard this season. Zak is a young talent that will be pivotal for Tempest, should they wish to retain their title from last year. It’s with good timing too, as Service Returns’ next fixture is against league leaders, Hot Digs.
